Know more about the Community Foundation
Community Foundation for Merseyside
The Community Foundation for Merseyside works closely in collaboration with the Community Foundation for Lancashire. The two Community Foundations are independent charities focusing on the communities and donors in their respective areas, working together to maximise resources. We do this by sharing a back office function, with both Community Foundations benefiting from shared expertise, knowledge and skills. Cathy Elliott is the Chief Executive of both Community Foundations.
Increasingly we are working with local philanthropists and funding partners who wish to work across both areas and beyond.
The Community Foundation for Merseyside was set-up in 1999 as the Sefton Community Foundation, a charitable trust that helps donors support their community by channelling their money to community projects. Their early success continued, resulting in being asked to support grant making across the other boroughs of Merseyside. In 2004 it became the Community Foundation for Merseyside.
2011 saw the Community Foundation move to new offices in the Stanley Building, which have been generously donated by the Grosvenor Liverpool Fund. This partnership and generous donation will support the Community Foundation to continue to maximise the impact of charitable funds in Merseyside and Lancashire in order to create united, thriving and prosperous communities.
Since it began, the Community Foundation for Merseyside has distributed around 8,000 grants making it one of the largest Community Foundations in the country and the largest grant-maker on Merseyside.
