Beth MurraySocial Policy Volunteer
“I joined the Community Foundation in July 2011 as a Social Policy Volunteer, for two days per week. Having begun my career recruiting engineers in the nuclear and oil & gas industries, I was looking to move into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), using my skills in a new light.
During my time here, I have conducted research into how philanthropy was affected during the recession; the areas of Lancashire and Merseyside that are affected by fuel poverty and the affect this can have on the community; and looked at more rural issues affecting Lancashire. I have also assisted in contacting community groups to promote the new social enterprise Localgiving.com, which has been launched during my time with the Community Foundation. This variety of projects has enhanced my knowledge of the local area and issues that affect those in my community, which I may not otherwise have been aware of.
The working environment and people at the Community Foundation are professional, friendly and great to work with, and the experience I have gained through my role has been invaluable in assisting me in moving towards this new career path of CSR. I would definitely recommend the Community Foundation as a great place to volunteer - helping to make a difference in your local community, or adding value to your CV during a period of unemployment.”
