Brief History

Community Foundation for Lancashire is a charitable trust that helps donors support their community by channelling their money to community projects

We are one of a network of community foundations throughout the country who collectively delivered £70 million throughout the UK last year.  The network is the fifth largest supporter of grassroots charities and community groups in the UK.

The need for Community Foundation for Lancashire was established in 2004, when sister foundation, Community Foundation for Merseyside began distributing grants in Lancashire.

The success of grant programmes like Local Network Fund for Children and Young People, coupled with consultations with local community leaders demonstrated that there was a clear need for the Community Foundation for Lancashire.

In 2007 we became an independent charity with our own governing documents and charity number. We are going from strength to strength, having won the Government's Grassroots Endowment Challenge for Lancashire in 2008, and are continuing to provide an essential grant-making service for donors across the county.

Our donors can specify how they want their money to be distributed by setting criteria. Whether the donor is concerned with a specific geographical area or cause, we can give them the best advice on maximising the impact of their donation.

We have already developed excellent grant making and monitoring processes to ensure grant money meets real identified need and is fully accounted for.

The infrastructure we now have in place can help us realise our ambition to become one of the leading Community Foundations in the country.
