What funding is available for my project?

Each fund that Community Foundation for Lancashire manages has criteria, outlining what funding is for. As our funds change regularly, we recommend visiting the available grants page where each current fund is described and full criteria and application forms are available to download.

What is a Community Foundation for Lancashire grant?

Community Foundation for Lancashire gives out grants on behalf of a range of different donors and funding bodies. Essentially, we manage the grant making process for other people, ensuring their funding reaches the projects and people our donors want to help.

How much money is available?

The size of grants available varies for each fund and is dependant on specific criteria laid out by the donor, the type of project and what can reasonably be achieved with the money. Funding criteria can specify grants of between £50 and £10,000.

Do we need to have a constitution or a set of rules to apply?

Yes, if you are applying on behalf of a group. A governing document, or constitution, tells us that you are legally established, what your objectives are, how you operate, who can become a member etc. If you need advice in this area you can contact your local Council for Voluntary Service who will be able to help you. Contact details are available on our useful links page.

We are a new group, can we apply for a grant?

We are particularly keen to fund new groups. Many of our donors are concerned with meeting real needs within the community over the long term. This frequently requires new groups to meet new challenges. However, you will always need to be constituted and have a bank account for your group.

We are a faith group, can we apply?

We believe faith groups have an important role within the voluntary and community sector. As long as your project does not promote specific religious or political beliefs, and your project is open to members of other faith groups then you will be able to apply for a Community Foundation for Lancashire grant.

Can a grant be used to fund salaries of people working on the project?

Yes. However, given the size of grants, we would not expect to fund many salaries. Emphasis will be on volunteer-run projects. You will be expected to produce written evidence of salary payments.

Do you monitor grants?

We have a responsibility to ensure money is accounted for and projects are meeting their planned objectives and outcomes. As part of this process you will be required to retain any receipts and return monitoring reports. More details of monitoring requirements are included in your grant award notification letter, if your application is successful.

In what time period does the money need to be spent?

This will be covered in your grant award letter, if your grant application is successful. Most grants will be designed to allow you to start work straight away and complete the project within a year.

Can we apply to take our beneficiaries on holiday in this country or abroad?

Generally you cannot use the grant to take people abroad unless a case can be made as to why the activity cannot take place within the UK. However, you can use grants to fund activities anywhere in this country that have a clear educational benefit.

Who decides which groups get funded?

Recommendations on grants are made by local independent grant assessment panels. These include representatives from local communities and suitably experienced people. Assessment panels make their decisions based upon the fund criteria and the perceived need within a community.

I want to apply, what happens next?

Fund criteria and applications forms for funds are available on our Available Grants Page. Once you have completed the form, your application will be assessed by one of our grants administration staff to ensure it meets the required criteria. Assessments are then issued to panels, which will make a decision on your application. You will be notified of the decision by letter.
